1. Export the file from Wise
- In Wise open the currency balance you want.
- Choose Statements (or Statements and reports) and pick the dates.
- Choose CSV as the format and download.
- Upload the file here. Each currency balance is a separate file.
Why a raw Wise export fails in QuickBooks Online
Imported raw, QuickBooks Online sees about twenty columns, dates written day first such as 05-08-2024, and the running balance and exchange columns alongside the amount.
QuickBooks Online maps the first row as column names and expects every following row to be a transaction. Extra header lines, balance and total rows, currency symbols, and cells that contain only zero are common reasons an upload fails or imports wrong amounts.
What is unusual about the Wise file
- One file per currency balance, newest first, dates written DD-MM-YYYY.
- Amount is signed and is what moved the balance; the Running Balance column is used to check the file.
- A fee can be its own row ("Charges for: TRANSFER-...") while the main row also shows it under Total fees; the fee is counted once.
- Currency conversions between your own Wise balances appear in both currency files.
- Several layouts exist (with or without Date Time and Transaction Type columns); columns are matched by name.
- Journal entries are not offered: the statement does not say which money coming in is sales and which is your own money, a loan or a refund.
What QuickBooks Online requires
- Columns exactly Date, Description, Amount.
- Money in is positive, money out is negative; no currency symbols or thousands separators.
- One date format for the whole file.
- Up to 1,000 rows and 350 KB per upload (we split bigger files).

3. Import the converted file into QuickBooks Online
- Go to Transactions > Bank transactions > Link account (or Update) > Upload from file.
- Choose this CSV and the account to put it in.
- Map the columns: Date to Date, Description to Description, Amount to Amount (one column).
- Pick the date format MM/dd/yyyy (or the one you chose here) and confirm that the first row is a header.
- Review the transactions under For review.
Questions
- Are Wise fees counted twice?
- No. A Wise statement can show a fee as its own row and again in the Total fees column of the transfer it belongs to. The converter uses the amount on each row as written and never subtracts Total fees, then checks the result against the Running Balance column.
- Should I choose 3 columns or 4 columns?
- Both import the same transactions. The 3-column file has one signed Amount, negative for money out. The 4-column file splits money in (Credit) and money out (Debit) and leaves the unused side blank, which is what Intuit asks for. Use 3 columns unless your accountant prefers the other; switch "To" in the converter to get the 4-column file.
- I have balances in several currencies. What do I download?
- Wise gives one statement per currency balance. Download and convert each one, and keep each currency in its own account in your books. A conversion between your balances shows up in both files.
- Why does QuickBooks reject my file as too large?
- Intuit documents a limit of 350 KB and 1,000 lines per manual upload in QuickBooks Online. When your converted file is bigger, the converter also gives you numbered parts that each fit; upload them one after another.
