Wise CSV to QFX for Quicken

In short: A Wise statement CSV covers one currency balance, newest first, with day-first dates, signed amounts, a running balance, and fees that can appear as their own rows. A .qfx file is the OFX bank statement format with Intuit's extra fields, the same Web Connect format Quicken reads from bank downloads. Drop the file below. It is converted on your device and never uploaded.

Your file stays on this device

It is read and converted by this page, inside your browser. Nothing from the file is uploaded, and the converter keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

1. Export the file from Wise

  1. In Wise open the currency balance you want.
  2. Choose Statements (or Statements and reports) and pick the dates.
  3. Choose CSV as the format and download.
  4. Upload the file here. Each currency balance is a separate file.

Why a raw Wise export fails in Quicken (Windows and Mac)

Wise offers statements in several formats depending on your account. Where you only have the CSV, it has to be rebuilt as a bank statement file, with the running balance as the check.

Quicken does not import a payment app CSV into a bank account register. A .qfx file gives it a Web Connect statement it can attach to an account, with a stable id for every transaction.

What is unusual about the Wise file

  • One file per currency balance, newest first, dates written DD-MM-YYYY.
  • Amount is signed and is what moved the balance; the Running Balance column is used to check the file.
  • A fee can be its own row ("Charges for: TRANSFER-...") while the main row also shows it under Total fees; the fee is counted once.
  • Currency conversions between your own Wise balances appear in both currency files.
  • Several layouts exist (with or without Date Time and Transaction Type columns); columns are matched by name.
  • Journal entries are not offered: the statement does not say which money coming in is sales and which is your own money, a loan or a refund.

What Quicken (Windows and Mac) requires

  • Same OFX 1.0.2 body as QBO, with an Intuit bank id (INTU.BID 3000).
  • Quicken checks the file online, so you need an active Quicken subscription and an internet connection.
  • US Quicken needs US dollars.
  • Quicken support does not help with files made by converters; the format is standard Web Connect.

Synthetic sample data that follows the real export layout, not a real account. The "after" output was produced from it by the same converter this page runs.

3. Import the converted file into Quicken (Windows and Mac)

  1. Windows: File > File Import > Web Connect (.QFX) File, then choose this file.
  2. Mac: Quicken for Mac has File > Import > Bank or Brokerage File (OFX, QFX). How it treats converted QFX files is not confirmed, so check the imported transactions.
  3. Link it to an existing account or create a new one, then accept the transactions.

Questions

Are Wise fees counted twice?
No. A Wise statement can show a fee as its own row and again in the Total fees column of the transfer it belongs to. The converter uses the amount on each row as written and never subtracts Total fees, then checks the result against the Running Balance column.
Will Quicken create a new account for the file?
When you import a .qfx file Quicken lets you add the transactions to an existing account or create a new one. Many people create one account per payment app (for example "Venmo") so the balance in Quicken can be checked against the app.
I have balances in several currencies. What do I download?
Wise gives one statement per currency balance. Download and convert each one, and keep each currency in its own account in your books. A conversion between your balances shows up in both files.
What is the difference between QFX, QBO and OFX?
All three are the same Open Financial Exchange statement format. QFX adds Intuit fields for Quicken, QBO adds them for QuickBooks, and plain OFX is what most other programs read. Pick the one that matches your software; the transactions inside are the same.
