1. Export the file from Venmo
- Sign in at venmo.com on a computer.
- Open Statements in the left menu.
- Pick the month (click the year at the top to change the year).
- Click Download CSV. Large statements may be emailed to you instead.
- Upload that file here without opening and re-saving it in Excel.
Why a raw Venmo export fails in Quicken (Windows and Mac)
Venmo offers no .qbo, .qfx or .ofx download, so the statement has to be rebuilt as a bank file. Payments funded straight from a bank account or card are listed too, even though that money never sat in your Venmo balance.
Quicken does not import a payment app CSV into a bank account register. A .qfx file gives it a Web Connect statement it can attach to an account, with a stable id for every transaction.
What is unusual about the Venmo file
- The first two lines are a title ("Account Statement - (@you)") and "Account Activity"; the real header is line 3 and starts with an empty column.
- Amounts look like "+ $25.00" and "- $1,000.00" (sign, space, dollar sign).
- A beginning-balance row comes before the transactions and an ending-balance row with a long multi-line disclaimer comes after them.
- Notes can contain emoji and line breaks.
- Times are in UTC. Choose your time zone and we convert them; otherwise a late-evening payment can show on the next day.
- Payments paid from a linked bank or card do not touch your Venmo balance; we add a matching transfer line so the Venmo account still balances.
- Newer statements (2024 and later) add Amount (tax), Tax Rate and Tax Exempt columns.
What Quicken (Windows and Mac) requires
- Same OFX 1.0.2 body as QBO, with an Intuit bank id (INTU.BID 3000).
- Quicken checks the file online, so you need an active Quicken subscription and an internet connection.
- US Quicken needs US dollars.
- Quicken support does not help with files made by converters; the format is standard Web Connect.

3. Import the converted file into Quicken (Windows and Mac)
- Windows: File > File Import > Web Connect (.QFX) File, then choose this file.
- Mac: Quicken for Mac has File > Import > Bank or Brokerage File (OFX, QFX). How it treats converted QFX files is not confirmed, so check the imported transactions.
- Link it to an existing account or create a new one, then accept the transactions.
Questions
- Why do some Venmo payments not change my Venmo balance?
- When a payment is funded directly from a linked bank account or card, Venmo still lists it on your statement, but the money moved through that bank or card. The converter adds a matching transfer line for each of those payments, so the Venmo account in your books still ends at Venmo's balance, and the transfer can be matched against your bank or card.
- Will Quicken create a new account for the file?
- When you import a .qfx file Quicken lets you add the transactions to an existing account or create a new one. Many people create one account per payment app (for example "Venmo") so the balance in Quicken can be checked against the app.
- How do I record a Venmo transfer to my bank?
- A Standard or Instant Transfer moves your own money from Venmo to your bank. Record it as a transfer between the Venmo account and the bank account, not as income or an expense. When both accounts are in your books, the bank side matches the transfer.
- What is the difference between QFX, QBO and OFX?
- All three are the same Open Financial Exchange statement format. QFX adds Intuit fields for Quicken, QBO adds them for QuickBooks, and plain OFX is what most other programs read. Pick the one that matches your software; the transactions inside are the same.
