Cash App CSV to QFX for Quicken

In short: Cash App exports one CSV of all activity, newest first, with separate Amount, Fee and Net Amount columns, a Status on every row, and dates that carry a time zone. A .qfx file is the OFX bank statement format with Intuit's extra fields, the same Web Connect format Quicken reads from bank downloads. Drop the file below. It is converted on your device and never uploaded.

  4. Upload the downloaded cash_app_report file here.

Why a raw Cash App export fails in Quicken (Windows and Mac)

Cash App does not offer a .qbo, .qfx or .ofx download, so the CSV has to be rebuilt as a bank statement file containing only the rows that moved money.

Quicken does not import a payment app CSV into a bank account register. A .qfx file gives it a Web Connect statement it can attach to an account, with a stable id for every transaction.

What is unusual about the Cash App file

  • Two column orders exist: older files start with Transaction ID, newer files (late 2024 on) start with Date.
  • Dates include a time zone abbreviation, for example "2024-09-26 16:18:23 EDT".
  • Amounts look like "$10.00" and "-$5.00"; older files drop zero cents ("$2").
  • Fees are negative and Net Amount is Amount plus Fee.
  • Rows are newest first. Failed rows and $0 notification rows are left out.
  • Transaction ID is often blank for newer files.

What Quicken (Windows and Mac) requires

  • Same OFX 1.0.2 body as QBO, with an Intuit bank id (INTU.BID 3000).
  • Quicken checks the file online, so you need an active Quicken subscription and an internet connection.
  • US Quicken needs US dollars.
  • Quicken support does not help with files made by converters; the format is standard Web Connect.

3. Import the converted file into Quicken (Windows and Mac)

  1. Windows: File > File Import > Web Connect (.QFX) File, then choose this file.
  2. Mac: Quicken for Mac has File > Import > Bank or Brokerage File (OFX, QFX). How it treats converted QFX files is not confirmed, so check the imported transactions.
  3. Link it to an existing account or create a new one, then accept the transactions.

Questions

Are Bitcoin and stock purchases income or expenses?
Neither. Buying Bitcoin or stock moves money from your Cash App balance into an investment, and selling moves it back. In your books these are transfers to an investment account, and gains or losses are a tax question for whoever prepares your return.
Will Quicken create a new account for the file?
When you import a .qfx file Quicken lets you add the transactions to an existing account or create a new one. Many people create one account per payment app (for example "Venmo") so the balance in Quicken can be checked against the app.
What happens to failed payments?
Failed rows and $0 notification rows are listed in the export but never moved money, so the converter leaves them out and counts them as skipped rows.
What is the difference between QFX, QBO and OFX?
All three are the same Open Financial Exchange statement format. QFX adds Intuit fields for Quicken, QBO adds them for QuickBooks, and plain OFX is what most other programs read. Pick the one that matches your software; the transactions inside are the same.
