Convert a Cash App CSV to QuickBooks Online

In short: Cash App exports one CSV of all activity, newest first, with separate Amount, Fee and Net Amount columns, a Status on every row, and dates that carry a time zone. QuickBooks Online imports bank CSV files with exactly 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount) or 4 columns (Date, Description, Credit, Debit), one header row and one date format throughout. Drop the file below. It is converted on your device and never uploaded.

Why a raw Cash App export fails in QuickBooks Online

Imported raw, QuickBooks Online sees more than a dozen columns and has to be told which one is the amount; pick Amount and the fees vanish, pick Net Amount and gross income is understated. Failed payments are in the file too, and they never moved money.

QuickBooks Online maps the first row as column names and expects every following row to be a transaction. Extra header lines, balance and total rows, currency symbols, and cells that contain only zero are common reasons an upload fails or imports wrong amounts.

What is unusual about the Cash App file

  • Two column orders exist: older files start with Transaction ID, newer files (late 2024 on) start with Date.
  • Dates include a time zone abbreviation, for example "2024-09-26 16:18:23 EDT".
  • Amounts look like "$10.00" and "-$5.00"; older files drop zero cents ("$2").
  • Fees are negative and Net Amount is Amount plus Fee.
  • Rows are newest first. Failed rows and $0 notification rows are left out.
  • Transaction ID is often blank for newer files.

What QuickBooks Online requires

  • Columns exactly Date, Description, Amount.
  • Money in is positive, money out is negative; no currency symbols or thousands separators.
  • One date format for the whole file.
  • Up to 1,000 rows and 350 KB per upload (we split bigger files).

Questions

Are Bitcoin and stock purchases income or expenses?
Neither. Buying Bitcoin or stock moves money from your Cash App balance into an investment, and selling moves it back. In your books these are transfers to an investment account, and gains or losses are a tax question for whoever prepares your return.
Should I choose 3 columns or 4 columns?
Both import the same transactions. The 3-column file has one signed Amount, negative for money out. The 4-column file splits money in (Credit) and money out (Debit) and leaves the unused side blank, which is what Intuit asks for. Use 3 columns unless your accountant prefers the other; switch "To" in the converter to get the 4-column file.
What happens to failed payments?
Failed rows and $0 notification rows are listed in the export but never moved money, so the converter leaves them out and counts them as skipped rows.
Why does QuickBooks reject my file as too large?
Intuit documents a limit of 350 KB and 1,000 lines per manual upload in QuickBooks Online. When your converted file is bigger, the converter also gives you numbered parts that each fit; upload them one after another.
