Stripe CSV converter

Stripe balance reports list every charge, refund, fee and payout in UTC with gross, fee and net amounts, and each payout to your bank bundles many of them into one net deposit. Stripe's itemized payout reconciliation report lists every charge, refund and fee with the id of the automatic payout that paid it out, so each bank deposit can be explained line by line.

Stripe balance transactions

Stripe balance reports list every charge, refund, fee and payout in UTC with gross, fee and net amounts, and each payout to your bank bundles many of them into one net deposit.

How to export it

  1. In the Stripe Dashboard open Reports > Balance.
  2. Under "Balance change from activity" click Download.
  3. Choose Itemized and CSV, pick the date range, and download.
  4. The older Transactions > All activity > Export (balance_history.csv) also works; choose "All columns".

What to know about this file

  • Amounts are decimals in the major unit (10.00 = $10). Fees are positive and net = gross - fee.
  • The legacy export lists the raw balance transaction Type (charge, payment, refund, payout, stripe_fee...), the report lists reporting_category.
  • Payouts are not in the "Balance change from activity" report; they are a separate section.
  • Dates are UTC unless you chose your account time zone when exporting; UTC times are converted to your time zone if you choose one.
  • Accounts in Europe can get decimal commas ("104,13").
  • Columns can be reordered or customized, so we read them by name.

Stripe payout reconciliation

Stripe's itemized payout reconciliation report lists every charge, refund and fee with the id of the automatic payout that paid it out, so each bank deposit can be explained line by line.

How to export it

  1. In the Stripe Dashboard open Reports > Payout reconciliation.
  2. Choose a date range that contains the payouts' arrival dates.
  3. In the "Payout reconciliation" section click Download, pick Itemized and CSV.
  4. Make sure the automatic_payout_id column is included (it is by default in current versions).

What to know about this file

  • Every row carries automatic_payout_id, so we can build one journal entry per payout.
  • The payout itself is not a row: the payout amount is the sum of the rows that belong to it.
  • Only automatic payouts are covered; instant and manual payouts cannot be matched by Stripe.
  • Also accepts the payouts section export of Reports > Balance and the legacy balance_history.csv with its Transfer column.

Questions

Which Stripe report should I export?
For a Stripe balance account in your books, use the itemized "Balance change from activity" report, or the older balance history export. For one journal entry per payout, use the itemized payout reconciliation report instead; it has its own page here.
Why are some charges on a different day than in my dashboard?
Stripe reports use UTC unless you choose your account time zone when exporting. A charge late in the evening in the United States can carry the next day's date in UTC.
Why does my Stripe revenue not match my deposits?
Stripe deducts its fees, refunds and dispute amounts before paying out, and one payout can cover charges from several days. The payout journal entry shows each part separately, so both the deposit and the revenue come out right.
Does this cover instant or manual payouts?
No. Stripe only links charges to automatic payouts in this report, so instant and manual payouts cannot be matched to the charges they paid out.
