Bank CSV converter

Bank CSV exports differ from bank to bank: some use one signed amount, some separate debit and credit columns, dates may be day-first or month-first, and many add header or total rows.

How to export from your bank

  1. In your online banking, find Download or Export transactions.
  2. Choose CSV (sometimes called Excel CSV or Comma separated).
  3. Pick the date range and download.

What to know about Bank CSV files

  • We look for the header row even if the file starts with account details.
  • We map Date, Description and Amount, or separate Debit and Credit columns, automatically, and show the result in the preview.
  • We work out whether dates are month/day or day/month and whether "," or "." is the decimal point from the file itself; when the file cannot tell, we ask you instead of guessing. Dotted dates (31.01.2025) are read day first.
  • Card exports that show purchases as positive numbers can be flipped with the "invert sign" option.

Questions

How does the converter know whether 03/04 is March 4 or April 3?
It looks at every date in the file. As soon as one day number is above 12 the order is certain. If no date settles it, the converter asks you, showing one date from your file both ways, and your answer stays visible and can be changed.
My credit card export shows purchases as positive numbers. Is that a problem?
Many card issuers show purchases as positive and payments as negative, the opposite of a bank account. Choose "Flip" under Signs so purchases become money out.
